At-bat songs: Florida Marlins

Page 3

The Marlins playas come pretty hard, with DMX, 50 Cent, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, Eminem, Black Label Society and Marilyn Manson . . . and Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Besides "Sweet Home Alabama," the world champs' left field choices include Oscar de Leon, Talib Kweli and Sir Mix-A-Lot's novelty smash "Baby Got Back."

AT-BAT MUSIC: FLORIDA MARLINS
Player Song Artist
OF Juan Pierre "We Ready" Archie
As the lead off hitter, this gets the crowd up.
3B Mike Lowell "Party Up in Here" DMX
Mike is superstitious and has had the song for three seasons now.
OF Miguel Cabrera "Wanksta" 50 Cent
C Paul LoDuca "Going Back To Cali" The Notorious B.I.G.
Info from the Los Angeles Dodgers: Lo Duca asked for "Going Back to Cali," so the music guys assumed he meant the LL Cool J version. Wrong. He wanted the Notorious B.I.G. version instead, which goes "I'm going back back back to Cali Cali Cali." Lo Duca used to come out to The Bee Gee's "Stayin' Alive" but got very sick of it and requested a change.
SS Alex Gonzalez Anything by Oscar de Leon
Alex loves to dance. Known to dance around the clubhouse before games, and comes out to the unorthodox sounds of salsa king Oscar de Leon.
SS Mike Mordecai "Sweet Home Alabama" Lynyrd Skynyrd
An Alabama native, he fittingly comes out to Lynard Skynard's southern anthem.
C Mike Redmond "Baby Got Back" Sir-Mix-A-Lot
Redmond is the team "jokester." His selection says a lot.
RHP Josh Beckett "In The End" Linkin Park
At the start of last season, Beckett was number 61 and came out to Kenny Chesney country music. After going on the disabled list for a month, he returned and promptly changed two things: his number -- and his music. As number 21, and with Linkin Park's "In The End" now pumping up the crowd, Beckett returned to not only finish the season healthy -- but as the World Series MVP. Currently on the DL again, expect another change in the near future.
LHP Dontrelle Willis "Just to Get By" Talib Kweli
RHP Carl Pavano "Business" Eminem
The music guys played Eminem's "Business" for a start earlier this season. After pitching well, Pavano had the locker room attendant call up and demand the song be played for his next start. You could hear Carl screaming in the background, "The Eminem One!" He hasn't changed it since.
RHP A.J. Burnett "The Beautiful People" Marilyn Manson
A metal head if there ever was, AJ has come out to Marilyn Manson's "The Beautiful People" his entire career. Before AJ's first home start in over fifteen months in May, the music guys asked if he should change the music. AJ said not to. He loves his Manson.
RHP Rudy Seanez "Bleed For Me" Black Cable Society
Info from the Kansas City Royals
RHP Guillermo Mota Generic Pop 40
Info from the Los Angeles Dodgers: Mota requested that the music guys use an unknown love song that he absolutely cherished. The music guys hated it, but went with it anyway. He got rocked, and agreed that the song should go unused.
RHP Armando Benitez "Big Pimpin'" Jay-Z
Armando, strangely enough, is a huge country music fan. But, despite his love for Kenny Chesney, Armando comes out to rap music. Originally, this season Armando warmed up to the tune of Notorious BIG's "Big Poppa," but recently switched the tune to Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin." Either way, whether it be a Poppa or Pimpin', the fact remains -- Armando is big when it comes to saves.
