At-bat songs: Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Page 3

Most of the Devil Rays come out to whatever the music folks believe is popular. Perhaps it's a mindset instilled by manager Lou Piniella, but the players don't care as much about their at-back music as some other teams.

Fortunately, the music folks relish the responsibility. When Fred McGriff, one of the original Devil Rays, returned for a second tour in Tampa, he did not request any music. But in the "Crime Dog's" first plate appearance, he was introduced with Ludacris' "Where the Hood At" ... in which the first line is "The dog is here." Both the crowd and Fred loved it. Sadly, the Dog has since been released.

AT-BAT MUSIC: TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS
Player Song Artist
OF Carl Crawford "Rubber Band Man" T.I.
Whether he's stealing bases or making diving catches, Carl Crawford is always bouncing around. The song seems to fit him perfectly.
OF Rocco Baldelli "Whole Lotta Love" Led Zeppelin
After last year's use of Def Leppard's "Rocket," Baldelli wanted to go old-school in 2004 and is now coming out to a portion of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love."
1B Tino Martinez Anything by Van Halen
When Tino played with the Yankees in 1996, he came out to only Van Halen. Looking to bring back some of that luck with the Devil Rays, the first baseman has returned to a heavy rotation of the band's greatest hits.
