Davis gets community service for pot bust

Men's College Basketball, Gonzaga Bulldogs

CHENEY, Wash. -- Theo Davis, the Gonzaga basketball player suspended after his misdemeanor arrest for possessing marijuana in February, was ordered to complete 10 hours of community service Thursday.

The 21-year-old Davis was arrested Feb. 9 in Cheney with Gonzaga forward Josh Heytvelt, who recently received a diverted sentence after hallucinogenic mushrooms were found in the back of his car.

Davis appeared in Cheney Municipal Court on Thursday morning and agreed to participate in 10 hours of community service and attend life skills classes this summer. The court also issued a continuance in the case, so if Davis isn't arrested on similar violations between now and May 2008, the case would be dismissed.

After court, Davis issued an apology to his teammates, family and Gonzaga, saying he wants to start over.

Davis and Heytvelt were both placed on indefinite suspension from the team after their arrests.

Davis is a freshman from Brampton, Ontario. He redshirted last season after suffering a shoulder injury last October.
