Hall believes Mora was kidding about Washington

NFL, Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall is sticking up for Jim Mora in the wake of Mora's comments expressing interest in coaching the University of Washington.

Mora, who apologized for the on-air comments he made last week, said he was joking when he said he'd drop everything to coach the Huskies. Hall believes him.

"If you really know Jim and spend time with him, you know that he jokes like that all the time," Hall told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "For him to go out and say a comment like that, and say he said it jokingly, I'm behind him 100 percent because I know him."

"Had we been 14-2 right now, that would have just been a sound bite and gone the next day," Hall told the newspaper. "We are behind him. We love him. He's a player's coach. He looks out for us."

Mora said he spoke with the Falcons about the comments three times last weekend.

"They laughed at me," Mora told the newspaper. "They said, 'We don't care about that, you're our guy.' I got about three or four phone calls from players, even after the meeting. Just saying, 'Come on, Jim.'"

If it was a joke, team owner Arthur Blank was not as amused, saying Saturday that Mora "used very bad judgment:" in making the comments on a radio show before the Falcons' loss to the Dallas Cowboys. But Blank said he felt Mora's apologies were sincere.
