Packers general manager Ted Thompson confirmed the team again moved the triggering clause in Brett Favre's contract past Saturday to April 15, giving the Packers quarterback two more weeks to decide whether he wants to play this season. It's the third time the date has been moved.

In Favre's contract, there is a $3 million roster bonus payable in September that was tied to an early March date if he was on the roster. The Packers want Favre back, and Favre is seriously thinking about playing another season, so moving the date back wasn't much of a problem.

While the Packers would like to know Favre's intentions, they plan on giving him as much time as he needs to decide.

Opportunity calls: Saints safety Mel Mitchell was having conversations with the Patriots, Falcons and Saints, but it appears he's heading to the Patriots to sign a contract, probably next week.

Mitchell is a great special teams player, but he is looking for an opportunity more than money in his deal. After studying situations in Atlanta and New Orleans, the Patriots looked good to him. Expect him to land a one-year contract early next week.

First things first: The Texans should be able to wrap up a deal with the Bills for wide receiver Eric Moulds, but they were well along the way in getting that deal when everything got put on hold until next week.

Moulds picked the Texans over the Eagles as a preference, and he liked the four-year deal for around $14 million they were willing to give him.

The Texans are preoccupied this weekend with the USC workouts to study Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and others. Once the front office returns to Houston on Monday, they will work out the final details with the Bills, who want a second-day draft choice, something in the fourth or fifth round.

Taking care of business: After hitting the free-agent market hard and getting what they wanted for big dollars, the Redskins are having success getting some important little signings for backups.

They should be getting defensive lineman Demetric Evans to sign for a $1 million a year on a multi-year deal early next week.

They think they have Jaguars cornerback Kenny Wright wrapped up for a one-year deal. That should come down early next week.

Harrington on the loose: Joey Harrington left Cincinnati without a deal and remains one of the most interesting players out there. The Lions want to trade him, but team president Matt Millen likes Harrington and isn't going to hold him hostage for a draft choice. Harrington had a good visit with Miami on Tuesday, but the Dolphins don't want to give up a draft choice to get him.

The Bengals are considering whether to offer him a one-year, $3 million deal, but negotiations haven't heated up yet.

The Chiefs, Broncos and Cowboys are also in the mix. The Seahawks are interested, but they aren't too involved yet. The Bengals have the best chance to get him, but the Chiefs could swoop in if they want. The Dolphins are also in a good position as long the Lions don't hold out for a draft choice.
