Less stress equals more fun for Haslett

ST. LOUIS -- Here are five observations on the St. Louis Rams, based on camp practices of Aug. 9:

1. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett looks like a new person. His head coaching job in New Orleans drained him last season. The stress of the move to San Antonio following Hurricane Katrina wore on Haslett and his family. Now, Haslett is having fun again and it shows on the field. The Rams' defense looks aggressive under Haslett's play calling.

The Rams have upgraded the athletic ability of their defense with the additions of linebacker Will Witherspoon and cornerbacks Fakhir Brown and Tye Hill. The additions of safety Corey Chavous and defensive end La'Roi Glover help with leadership and smarts.
