Report: Orioles re-sign 1B Millar

WASHINGTON - The Baltimore Orioles apparently are intent on staying busy this offseason.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday on its web site that the Orioles agreed to terms with first baseman Kevin Millar on a one-year deal worth $2.75 million.

According to the report, the deal has an option for a second year based on how many plate appearances Millar records in 2007.

Millar, 35, batted .272 with 15 home runs and 64 RBIs in 132 games last season, his first in Baltimore. He is a career .287 hitter with 126 homers and 535 RBIs in eight-plus seasons with the Orioles, Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins.

The reported move would constitute yet another chapter in what has been an active offseason for the Orioles, who have focused primarily on improving their bullpen.

On Monday, the club signed Danys Baez to a three-year contract in the hope that the hard-throwing righthander can serve as a setup man for young closer Chris Ray. The signing came less than a week after Baltimore locked up lefthanded specialist Jamie Walker to a three-year deal.

According to a report in the Baltimore Sun on Tuesday, the Orioles also have agreed to terms with free-agent righthanders Chad Bradford and Scott Williamson.
