Jags nab cornerback Williams with 6-year, $32M deal

One day after gaining his surprise freedom from the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Brian Williams struck gold and agreed to a six-year, $32 million deal with the Jaguars that included a $10 million signing bonus.

Williams was designated a transition player last month by the Vikings even though he was the third cornerback behind Fred Smoot and Antoine Winfield. The transition tag at the time was relatively cheap for a cornerback at $4.774 million.

Those numbers changed when the collective bargaining agreement was extended Wednesday. A calculation change in the transition number happened when the league was mandated to included past franchise and transition numbers in the 2006 numbers.

Williams is considered a physical cornerback with good man-to-man skills and comes to an already talented defense.
