Daily Fantasy Basketball: Building blocks, fades for Dec. 1

As part of ESPN Fantasy's efforts to give intel to daily fantasy gamers on whom to target and whom to avoid in DFS, our fantasy basketball experts are here to show you which players they are building their teams around and which ones they are fading. Today's panel features picks from Joe Kaiser, Renee Miller, Tom Carpenter, Jungkyu Lee and DraftKings analyst Peter Jennings.

Player to build around

Joe Kaiser -- Brook Lopez, C, Brooklyn Nets ($7,400)

Lopez is bargain priced when you consider how well he’s played of late and the fact that Phoenix is expected to be without starting center Tyson Chandler. Lopez has scored between 41.25-52.25 fantasy points over his last three games, and that’s the type of range you can expect him to end up in on Tuesday in a matchup against Alex Len.

Renee Miller -- LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers ($9,700)

In one of the night's highest expected scoring games, one of the league's best players gets one of the best matchups out there. The Wizards allow the most fantasy points to opposing small forwards, and James is playing 36.5 minutes per game with a 31.7 usage rate and 27.0 player efficiency rating (PER). The Cavs should win pretty easily here, but expect James to lead the charge and meet or exceed value.

Tom Carpenter -- LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers ($9,700)

James’ contract remains a bargain at $9,700, and he has a choice matchup against a Wizards team that has been abused all season by small forwards. On a night with limited star options available, King James is an obvious player around whom you should build rosters.

Jungkyu Lee -- C.J. McCollum, SG, Portland Trail Blazers ($6,600)

McCollum will be as close to a must-play as it gets if Damian Lillard, who left the game with abdominal pain Monday night, sits. Consider that McCollum is averaging 22.4 points per 36 minutes when Lillard is not on the court with him, almost three points higher than sharing the floor with Lillard. Additionally, McCollum’s usage rate is 34.5 percent with Lillard on the bench (which would rank third in the league behind Russell Westbrook and DeMarcus Cousins) compared with 21.7 percent with him on the court. If Lillard sits, make sure to enter McCollum in your lineups.

DraftKings analyst Peter Jennings -- LeBron James, SF, Cleveland Cavaliers ($9,700)

The King gets a tasty matchup at home against the Wizards, who have allowed more fantasy points to SFs than any other team in the league. I love taking LeBron in up-tempo games and I think he offers a ton of upside tonight where he could get a triple-double.

Player to fade

Joe Kaiser -- Evan Fournier, SF, Orlando Magic ($6,300)

Even if you believe that Fournier will have a good game against a Minnesota defense that ranks 15th in the NBA in defensive efficiency, it’s going to be difficult for the swingman to reach his contract value on Tuesday thanks to his high price tag. Consider this: Fournier hasn’t reach 28 fantasy points in any of his last four games.

Renee Miller -- John Wall, PG, Washington Wizards ($7,800)

While Wall's price has gone down, he's still not producing the kind of fantasy lines we want to see in DFS. Even Bradley Beal's improved play hasn't really translated, as the team has averaged just 84 points over its last three games. Add to their woes the fact that Cleveland is one of the best defensive teams in the league and allow the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing point guards.

Tom Carpenter -- John Wall, PG, Washington Wizards ($7,800)

Wall’s contract has been on a slow but steady descent thanks to his subpar play in recent weeks, but it still hasn’t dropped far enough to make him an attractive DFS option unless he has an ideal matchup. That won’t be the case tonight against a defensively sound Cavaliers team.

Jungkyu Lee -- Anthony Davis, PF, New Orleans Pelicans ($10,600)

The Grizzlies are once again becoming the defensive stalwart that many expected, allowing 94.8 points per 100 possessions in their last two weeks, third-best in the league during that stretch, and have held their opponents to fewer than 90 points in three of their last six contests (the Grizzlies had allowed the third-most points per 100 possessions in the league prior to the hot streak). In the last two weeks, the Grizz are allowing the fewest points in the paint per game, and unfortunately for Davis, he has not been shooting well outside the paint this season. The Brow is shooting 40.3 percent from outside the paint compared to 59.2 percent inside. I am fading Davis against a tough Grizzlies interior defense.

DraftKings analyst Peter Jennings -- Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Dallas Mavericks ($6,600)

Dirk is one of my favorite players of all time, but I am going to fade him on a back-to-back tonight. The Mavs are cautious with Nowitzki's minutes when he is playing his second game in as many nights, so I think he offers minimal upside.
