3-point stance: LSU catches another break in its schedule

play
Ole Miss in the bottom 10 (3:00)

The bottom 10 includes Ole Miss after their loss to the Florida. What went wrong for the Rebels? (3:00)

1. No. 7 LSU's schedule gets easier every month. Last month, the No. 7 Tigers' opener against FCS McNeese State got canceled. Say what you will about that being an easy game, but LSU has that much less wear and tear on it. And now the disastrous flooding in Columbia has caused LSU and South Carolina to move their game Saturday to Baton Rouge. Suddenly, the Tigers play five SEC home games and three away. Since this is the back end of the home-and-home, LSU doesn't play three at home and five away next season. The Tigers just catch another break.

2. Attention, No. 24 Toledo: Here's the weirdest stat I've come across in a long time. Kent State, which plays the Rockets this week, ranks in the top 10 in the FBS in total defense (252 yards per game), rushing defense (83.4 ypg) and third-down conversion defense (.256). Yet the Golden Flashes allow 25.6 points per game, which is why they're 2-3. Kent State gave up two overtime touchdowns in a loss to Marshall, and Illinois needed only 107 yards to convert four turnovers into touchdowns in a 52-3 rout in Week

3. As long as we're at it, here's another interesting MAC stat. Ball State is second in the FBS in fewest penalties per game (3.4) and fewest penalty yards (29.0). Those by themselves aren't what is interesting. It's that this is the third consecutive year that the Cardinals have been in the top 10 in not committing penalties. You would think that is a trait that all good teams would like to have. You would be wrong. Baylor is last in the FBS in penalties per game (11.75) after finishing last in each of the last two seasons.
