Daniel Paille, Chris Kelly out for B's

NHL, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings

BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins began the Stanley Cup playoffs without forwards Daniel Paille and Chris Kelly and defensemen Kevan Miller and Matt Bartkowski.

All four players did not participate in pregame warm-ups before the Bruins faced the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 on Friday night.

Paille, who appeared to have suffered a head injury against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, skated on his own for the first time Friday morning at TD Garden. Kelly missed the final three regular-season games with back spasms, while Miller and Bartkowski are out with undisclosed issues.

Without Kelly, Justin Florek made his Stanley Cup playoffs debut and played with Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson.

Without Paille, Jordan Caron played on the team's energy line with Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell.

Corey Potter added support on defense.
