Chicago Bears safety Ryan Mundy has been fined $22,050 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder.

Mundy wasn't penalized for the play, which occurred early in the second quarter of the Bears' 27-13 victory, because it was ruled on the field that Mundy led with his shoulder on the tackle.

Walt Anderson's crew dropped a late flag. But after discussion, Anderson waved it off and said there was no foul because the "contact was with the shoulder."

"It's the NFL and that's the rules, if you hit somebody in the helmet,'' White said Wednesday. "I got fined once for doing that, so I stay away from those things. But it is what it is. The game is so fast-paced on the referees. Yeah, I thought it was an illegal hit when he hit me in the face mask.''
