Davis Webb will start at QB

College Football, Texas Tech Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Davis Webb won't be competing for the starting job at Texas Tech this fall.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury has already tapped the sophomore to lead the offense.

The 6-foot-4 Webb and the rest of the Red Raiders play the team's spring game Saturday. It doesn't hurt that the two quarterbacks Webb battled for the starting spot last season have transferred. But Kingsbury said what Webb went through last season seasoned him in ways that will benefit the team going forward.

It will be a different type of pressure this season. Instead of wondering whether he'll get the nod to start, Webb knows the team's success next season rests on his shoulders.

Webb won MVP in the Red Raiders' Holiday Bowl win over then-No. 16 Arizona State.
