Nick Marshall pays pot citations

College Football, Auburn Tigers

REYNOLDS, Ga. -- Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall has paid the fines for possession of a small amount of marijuana and a window-tint violation.

Reynolds, Georgia, police chief Lonnie Holder said Thursday that Marshall's mother, Shalina Cliett, paid the $1,100 in fines. That means Marshall won't have to appear at a September court hearing.

Holder and another officer found less than an ounce of marijuana in Marshall's car during a July 11 traffic stop for the window tinting. The fines were $1,000 for the marijuana and $100 for the window-tint violation.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn didn't let Marshall attend Southeastern Conference media days. Malzahn said Monday on ESPN's "Numbers Never Lie" that he would decide Marshall's punishment "in a short period of time."

The Tigers open the season on Aug. 30 against Arkansas.
