Anu Solomon to start for Arizona

Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez announced Monday that redshirt freshman Anu Solomon has won a four-way quarterback battle to start Friday night against UNLV.

Solomon beat out USC transfer Jesse Scroggins, LSU transfer Jerrard Randall and Texas transfer Connor Brewer. Rodriguez said he told the four of his decision Sunday night.

Rodriguez also said he might play more than one quarterback against the Rebels.

If Solomon holds on to the job, it would mean Rodriguez would have his first non-senior starter at Arizona. The previous two seasons he started seniors, Matt Scott in 2012 and B.J. Denker in 2013.

Solomon was a touted recruit after a spectacular career at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. His team went 57-3 and won four state titles with Solomon as a four-year starter. He passed for 10,112 yards and 138 touchdowns with just 17 interceptions.
