Daryl Worley arrested for battery

College Football, West Virginia Mountaineers

Suspended West Virginia cornerback Daryl Worley has been accused of grabbing a woman by the throat and shoving her to the ground, according to Morgantown Police.

The alleged altercation occurred in a nightclub Sunday morning hours after the Mountaineers' 40-37 win over Maryland.

A warrant was issued Wednesday for Worley's arrest on a misdemeanor battery charge, and he turned himself in to police without incident.

West Virginia MetroNews earlier reported news of the alleged altercation.

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen announced Worley's indefinite suspension Monday night in an email to the press. He declined further comment during his press conference the following day.

Morgantown police were called to the Lux Nightclub about 1:14 a.m. Sunday. Police said they found the alleged female victim "extremely upset and crying," who told police that Worley assaulted her. Police said surveillance video of the altercation showed Worley grab the alleged victim around the neck with both hands and push her to the ground. Police did not release the victim's name.

Worley isn't the first Big 12 football player to be accused of assaulting a female this year. Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon, Texas Tech cornerback Nigel Bethel II and former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, who has since left the school, were all suspended after allegedly striking women.

After starting last year as a true freshman, Worley has been one of West Virginia's best defensive players as a sophomore. Worley has 17 tackles and both of the Mountaineers' two interceptions this season.

West Virginia plays host to fourth-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday night in the Big 12 opener for both teams.
