Quinton Jefferson out for season

College Football, Maryland Terrapins

Maryland starting defensive end Quinton Jefferson will undergo season-ending knee surgery Friday, coach Randy Edsall announced Sunday.

Jefferson injured his knee Sept. 13 against West Virginia. He had started Maryland's first three games after starting all 13 last season.

Jefferson, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound junior, had 47 tackles, including 7.5 for loss and three sacks, last fall. He had a sack and eight tackles this season.

Senior Keith Bowers, who made nine starts last season, started in place of Jefferson in Saturday's win at Syracuse.
