Second procedure for Luther Maddy

College Football, Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech defensive tackle Luther Maddy will undergo an additional procedure on his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, the school announced Tuesday.

"After his knee surgery on Sept. 23, Luther Maddy had two options moving forward. Luther has chosen the option of having an additional procedure and taking a medical hardship, so we will move forward based on his decision," Mike Goforth, Virginia Tech's associate athletic director for sports medicine, said in a release. "The expected recovery time is four to six months, and he will be limited in the spring but is expected to be full for fall practice."

Maddy, a preseason first-team all-ACC selection, started in the Hokies' first four games before undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus. He suffered the tear Sept. 13 against East Carolina but managed to play 48 snaps the following week against Georgia Tech.

The 6-foot-1, 293-pounder has a redshirt season available, as he played in the first 43 games of his career, starting 33. Maddy was a third-team all-ACC selection last year by the league's coaches.
