Police: Neither Vols player charged

Tennessee has suspended linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive back Michael Williams from all team activities.

The school did not disclose a reason for the suspensions, but police and university sources confirmed to ESPN's Chris Low that Johnson and Williams are being investigated as suspects in two sexual assault allegations.

No arrests or charges have yet been made, but Tennessee coach Butch Jones confirmed earlier Monday that two players were being investigated in the incidents. He did not identify the players. The Knoxville police have also declined to identify the suspects, other than to confirm they are Tennessee students, because they have not been charged.

The school announced the suspensions Monday afternoon on the football program's Twitter account.

Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said in statement that officers arrived at a Knoxville apartment complex Sunday just before 3 a.m. A woman told police she'd been raped by two males and a second female said she was sexually assaulted.

DeBusk said the suspects were Tennessee students but haven't been named because they haven't been charged. DeBusk said one woman "has decided not to prosecute at this time,'' but the other wants to press charges.

A search warrant was executed Sunday night at the Woodlands Apartment Complex, where the alleged incidents occurred.

Tennessee (5-5, 2-4 SEC) plays host to Missouri (8-2, 5-1) on Saturday night. The Vols are one win away from becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 2010.
