Freeze 'extremely happy' at Ole Miss

College Football, Ole Miss Rebels

Mississippi's Hugh Freeze has been one of the coaches mentioned as a possible replacement for Will Muschamp at Florida, but he said Monday during his weekly news conference that his focus is on getting the Rebels ready to play Arkansas on Saturday.

"I don't discuss my job status, good or bad," Freeze said. "I don't think anything good comes from that. My family and I are extremely happy in Oxford, and I love working for chancellor Dan Jones and [athletic director] Ross Bjork. We're extremely happy.

"I will say this: I have great admiration for Will Muschamp. Your heart goes out to him, and the way he's handled adversity is a great lesson for a lot of us that we can learn."

The Rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC) are ranked No. 8 in The Associated Press Top 25, but still have a chance of winning the SEC West and making it to Atlanta for the conference championship game. They're also still in the mix for the College Football Playoff, where they are ranked No. 10.

With the success Freeze has had in his two-plus seasons as coach, it sounds like he could be in line for a raise at season's end. He's in the third year of a four-year contract worth a base salary of $3 million annually, and Bjork said Monday that "by all accounts, we'll have a new deal for him when the season's over."

Bjork added that the going rate for an SEC coaching salary is closer to $4 million. Freeze, 45, is a native of Oxford, Mississippi, and also worked as an assistant at Ole Miss from 2005 to '07.
