Marshawn Williams out for season

College Football, Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech running back Marshawn Williams will miss the rest of the season and all of spring practice after tearing the ACL in his left knee, head athletic trainer Mike Goforth announced Tuesday.

Williams suffered the injury in Saturday's 17-16 win at Duke. The true freshman had missed one game earlier this season because of a right ankle sprain but was the Hokies' leading rusher in 2014, tallying 475 yards on 124 carries in nine games.

Williams is the latest Virginia Tech tailback to be injured, as Shai McKenzie tore the ACL in his right knee in September and Trey Edmunds broke his clavicle in October and has yet to return.

Additionally, the Hokies lost starting right tackle Jonathan McLaughlin earlier this month because of season-ending left ankle surgery needed after a Nov. 1 loss to Boston College.

Virginia Tech (5-5) travels to Wake Forest on Saturday, one win away from extending its streak of playing in bowl games to 22 straight years.
