NCAA lifts Idaho's postseason ban

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Idaho says the NCAA has lifted the football team's postseason ban imposed for failing to meet academic standards for the 2009 through 2012 seasons.

The school said in a statement Monday that efforts by coach Paul Petrino, who took over in December 2012, resulted in grade point averages of 2.55 in his four semesters as head coach. The ban started in the 2014 season.

Athletic department spokeswoman Becky Paull said the ban could have been extended had players not met certain goals.

The team also lost four hours of practice time per week that instead were allocated for study hall.

The school says it will get those four hours for practice back if players continue to meet academic requirements.
