Several days after deciding to transfer, Keith Ford has finalized his destination.
The former Oklahoma Sooners running back told 247Sports he will transfer to Texas A&M after making an unofficial visit Thursday.
"I'm going to Aggieland," Ford told the website. "It feels great. When I went up there today, you could really tell how much time they put into their players' futures. They care about you getting your degree as much as your success on the field. What really helped me come to my decision was when I sat down with Coach [Kevin] Sumlin. It didn't sound like it was rehearsed or anything. He was just talking to me man to man and laid out his expectations for me. He also wanted me to believe in him. After I heard all of that I was like, 'Yeah, I'm coming here.' I can't wait to get up there."
Ford was suspended indefinitely in March for academic and team rules violations. He was Oklahoma's top rusher and one of the Sooners' top receivers last season before he broke his right leg in the third game against Tennessee and missed the next five games.
Ford will have two years of eligibility remaining, in addition to a redshirt season, after sitting out next season due to the transfer.
After that, the 5-foot-11, 202-pounder knows the Aggies won't simply hand him the prominent role he played in the Sooners' backfield.
"Come next spring I'm going to have to compete for my spot just like everyone else," he said. "I have a lot of opportunities because of how the offense is set up."
