Urban Meyer says QB Braxton Miller is not leaving Ohio State

College Football, Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said Friday that there's no substance to rumors of quarterback Braxton Miller transferring to another program and that there are no plans for Miller to switch positions.

"He's playing for Ohio State this fall," Meyer told reporters at a news conference.

Miller, who was the Big Ten offensive player of the year in 2012 and 2013, missed the 2014 season with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. Because he graduated this spring from Ohio State and with the presence of Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett at quarterback, rumors have circulated that he would use the graduate transfer option for his final season of eligibility.

But Meyer said Friday that those rumors were "just people talking." Miller has been hard at work on his rehab and has progressed to throwing up to 35 yards this summer.

"He's in the best shape he's ever been in his life," Meyer said. "He's working his tail off."

Miller will compete with Jones and Barrett for the starting job in August in one of the most hotly anticipated position battles in college football history. Meyer said he has not talked to Miller about changing positions even though many believe his NFL future is at receiver or running back.

"The objective is to get him healthy," Meyer said, "and be an Ohio State quarterback."
