Harold Brantley has fractured ribs, ligament damage after wreck

College Football, Missouri Tigers

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri Tigers defensive lineman Harold Brantley has improved to good condition after undergoing surgery for a fractured left leg following a car crash on Sunday.

Rex Sharp, the associate athletic director for sports medicine at Missouri, said in a news release Monday that Brantley, who also suffered several rib fractures, will undergo additional knee surgery in three to four weeks to repair ligament damage.

"We're pleased to report that the prognosis is very good long-term, and that Harold should be able to make a full physical recovery," the school said in a statement.

Brantley should be able to be moved from ICU and into a regular room on Tuesday, Sharp said.

Madeleine Stock, a Missouri women's basketball player, was treated and released for minor injuries she suffered in the accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Brantley's car went off U.S. 63 in Columbia after he overcorrected. The car then hit a guardrail and overturned. Neither Brantley nor Stock, both 21, was wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report.

The university said it's too early to say when Brantley will return to the football team.

"We're going to leave that open and focus all attention on helping Harold recover and get back to full health first," Sharp said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
