QB Danny Etling transferring to LSU

Les Miles and his staff added another quarterback to their roster Monday as ESPN confirmed that former Purdue signal-caller Danny Etling will transfer to LSU and plans to enroll this fall.

By rule, Etling will have to sit out the 2015 season, but the former ESPN 300 quarterback will still have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016. He signed with Purdue in February 2013, and over the course of two seasons, he appeared in 13 games and threw for 2,490 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

The move gives LSU four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster this fall with Etling, Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris and Justin McMillan. The Tigers also have a commitment from ESPN 300 quarterback Feleipe Franks, who is expected to join the mix in 2016.

This season, Jennings and Harris are currently competing for the No. 1 spot, though Jennings was one of three LSU players to be arrested and subsequently suspended after an altercation last week. Neither quarterback was able to secure the job last year as both struggled when given the opportunity.

Etling already has a small connection to LSU as he grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, the same place where offensive coordinator Cam Cameron played his high school ball.

Etling visited both Arkansas and LSU before making his decision.
