Yellow Jackets, Vols to open 2017 season in Atlanta

Georgia Tech and Tennessee will open the 2017 season against each other in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at New Atlanta Stadium.

The game, which will take place Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, and it'll be one of the first college games in the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium. The game will kick in primetime and air on ESPN.

The Volunteers hold a 24-17-2 series lead over the Yellow Jackets, although they haven't played each other in more than 30 years.

"We're excited to have the opportunity to play in one of the first games at the Atlanta Falcons' new stadium," Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson said in a release. "Playing an SEC team like Tennessee in the nonconference is important for us, and we're grateful for the opportunity to play them in our backyard."

The game will come two days after Alabama and Florida State square off in the other Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on Sat., Sept. 2.
