Clemson kicker Ammon Lakip will be suspended for at least the first three games of the season following his June arrest, coach Dabo Swinney said Thursday. Lakip returned to school and rejoined the team this week at practice but was not participating just yet. Swinney said Lakip has a chance to return for the Tigers' Oct. 3 game against Notre Dame. Lakip had been suspended indefinitely after being arrested in early June and charged with cocaine possession and driving under the influence. According to TigerNet.com, Lakip was arrested June 6 after an officer noticed he could not keep his car in his lane. Citing the incident report, TigerNet.com reported that Lakip had a difficult time following instructions during the field sobriety test and that 0.4 grams of cocaine was alleged to have been found in a lip balm container. A redshirt senior, Lakip started all 13 games last year for Clemson, hitting on 21 of 28 field goal attempts and 43 of 44 extra point tries. Redshirt freshman Greg Huegel, who was not on the team last season, appears to have an edge over redshirt freshman Alex Spence to replace Lakip for the starting job for the season's first month. Clemson, No. 12 in the Amway preseason coaches' poll, opens its season Sept. 5 against Wofford.
