Virginia Tech Hokies starting cornerback Kendall Fuller will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee, the school announced Wednesday.
Fuller initially tore the meniscus in his knee during preseason camp but tried to play through it. He missed last week's game against East Carolina and was re-evaluated Monday, then had the surgery Tuesday.
"Kendall was very determined to compete as long as he could with this injury," coach Frank Beamer said in a statement. "While we are all disappointed that he is sidelined for the remainder of the season, we know Kendall will approach his rehab with a positive attitude and will continue to contribute to our team with his knowledge and leadership."
Virginia Tech must now move forward without its two most important players: Fuller and quarterback Michael Brewer, who continues to rehab from a broken collarbone suffered in the season opener against Ohio State.
Fuller, a preseason ESPN.com All-American, has a decision to make once the season ends. A junior, Fuller could forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
