Hokies' Michael Brewer OK'd for practice 1 month after injury

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech Hokies quarterback Michael Brewer has been cleared to return to practice.

Brewer broke his left collarbone in the Hokies' season-opening loss to No. 1 Ohio State on Sept. 7. He was originally expected to miss eight to 10 weeks.

Trainer Mike Goforth says Brewer will wear a yellow non-contact jersey in practice and his progress will be closely monitored.

His possible participation in Friday night's game against NC State could be a game-time decision.

Goforth says running back Marshawn Williams reinjured his left knee in practice on Sept. 29 and will miss the rest of the season. Williams had the knee surgically repaired in December. The Hokies expect Williams to make a complete recovery.
