QB-turned-WR-turned-QB Johnson could get start for No. 10 Baylor

WACO, Texas -- Injured Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham is "highly questionable" to play against TCU, coach Art Briles said Monday, and the Bears are preparing for third-string quarterback Chris Johnson to start Friday.

Briles said he believes Stidham is dealing with an injured fibula in addition to back and hand injuries. The freshman was sidelined for the second half of Baylor's 45-35 road upset of No. 6 Oklahoma State.

"He was not very good yesterday," Briles said. "I would list him as highly questionable for this week."

Briles said running back Shock Linwood, the Big 12's leading rusher, is also questionable for TCU, as are three more injured starters: safety Orion Stewart, defensive tackle Beau Blackshear and tight end Gus Penning.

Linwood sat out the second half of the Oklahoma State win with knee and ankle issues. He has rushed for 1,240 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.

"With Shock, we'll see how he is today and go from there," Briles said.

Third-string quarterback Johnson, a sophomore, has played in nine career games and is in line to make his first career start. He moved to wide receiver before the season but returned to playing quarterback after Baylor lost Seth Russell to a season-ending neck injury last month.

In his cameo against Oklahoma State, Johnson threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 42 yards and a score. Briles hasn't determined who Johnson's backup would be if Stidham is unavailable.
