Tigers no longer pursuing jailed recruit Marvin Terry

College Football, Football Recruiting, Missouri Tigers

Missouri no longer will pursue linebacker recruit Marvin Terry, who has been in jail since Jan. 25 and did not sign his letter of intent with the Tigers on Wednesday.

A source told the Kansas City Star that Missouri and coach Barry Odom no longer have interest in signing Terry, a four-star recruit out of South Oak Cliff High in Dallas who is ranked 22nd by ESPN among outside linebackers.

Court records show that Terry has been involved in two incidents with the mother of his child within the last year.

The Star, citing the Dallas County arrest warrant, reported that Terry allegedly pushed the woman July 9, when she was eight months pregnant. He was arraigned one month later on one count of "assault causes bodily injury family violence."

Then, in January, Terry was arrested for another alleged incident involving the woman, who claimed he struck her with his fists several times, kicked her in the ribs and threatened her life, according to the police affidavit.

He was arraigned Jan. 25 for that incident.

He is currently being held in Dallas County Jail on a bond of $34,500, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

According to the Tribune, Terry was the first recruit to commit to Odom when he was named Missouri's head coach in December.

Last week, Odom dismissed quarterback Maty Mauk for "violating team rules." The decision came after a brief video was posted on social media. It showed a person believed to be Mauk appearing to snort a white, powder-like substance, and an accompanying tweet mentioned Mauk by name, but there was no confirmation from Missouri that the video was of him.
