Auburn, Penn State schedule home-and-home series

College Football, Penn State Nittany Lions, Auburn Tigers

Penn State and Auburn will play a home-and-home series in 2021-22, the schools announced Monday.

The first game will be held in State College, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 18, 2021, with the Nittany Lions going to Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium on Sept. 17, 2022. The two teams have never met in the regular season but have played twice in bowls. Penn State beat Auburn in the 1996 Outback Bowl, while the Tigers prevailed in the 2003 Capital One Bowl.

The series marks a rare home-and-home series between SEC and Big Ten powers. Most of the recent regular-season meetings between the two leagues have happened at neutral sites, including this season's LSU-Wisconsin game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The last such home-and-home matchup between conference powers was the Alabama-Penn State series in 2010 and 2011. The Crimson Tide won both of those games by double digits.

More, however, are on the way in the future. Tennessee has a home-and-home series lined up with Ohio State in 2018-19 and Nebraska in 2026-27, while Arkansas and Michigan are scheduled to trade home games in 2018-19.
