Kyle Guy, ESPN's 39th-ranked player in the class of 2016, committed to Virginia on Monday.
After a big summer on the AAU circuit with Indiana Elite, Guy's recruitment took off. As a result, he planned to wait until after his junior season to make a college decision -- at the earliest.
That all changed after the 6-foot-2 guard visited Virginia this past weekend.
"I'm just as shocked as anybody," Guy told ESPN.com. "I just fell in love with Virginia, with [coach] Tony Bennett. They had everything. It's the perfect package."
Guy, a Lawrence Central (Ind.) product, averaged 14.3 points per game on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit, shooting 44.6 percent from 3-point range. Guy upped his game at the Adidas Super 64 in July, making 51.6 percent of his 3-point attempts in helping lead Indiana Elite to a championship.
High-majors came knocking left and right for Guy, who said Purdue, Indiana, Butler and Xavier were making strong pushes recently. Michigan and North Carolina were showing interest, too.
Guy joins guard Ty Jerome in Virginia's 2016 class, and the two could comprise the Cavaliers' backcourt of the future.
"They said the 2016 class will have to play right away," Guy said. "They'll have one guard in London [Perrantes] there, so with me and Ty committed, we'll have to be ready to play."
