Former Baylor recruit J.P. Urquidez signs with Texas

Football Recruiting, College Football, Texas Longhorns, Baylor Bears

Two days after being released from his national letter of intent to attend Baylor, ESPN 300 offensive lineman J.P. Urquidez has found a new home.

Urquidez, the No. 164-ranked prospect in the class of 2016, committed to Texas on Saturday afternoon after making an unofficial visit with his mother earlier in the day and signing a financial aid agreement.

The No. 17-rated offensive tackle in the class was one of five players who signed with Baylor on Feb. 3 and were released from their commitments following the suspension with intent to terminate of Art Briles on May 26.

Urquidez's commitment to the Longhorns comes just after Devin Duvernay, rated No. 42 in the ESPN 300, signed with Texas on Thursday. Duvernay made national headlines June 2 after learning that his national letter of intent to attend Baylor was deemed invalid after Baylor failed to submit the letter to the Big 12 offices.

Urquidez, who will be enrolling at Texas on July 11, adds to the Texas recruiting class that was ranked No. 10 nationally on Feb. 3. The Longhorns' class now includes 14 members of the ESPN 300.

Just hours after Urquidez announced that he was headed to Texas, a third Baylor signee released from his letter of intent Thursday did the same when three-star athlete Donovan Duvernay -- the twin brother of Devin Duvernay -- informed ESPN that he had committed and signed a financial aid agreement with Texas. Donovan Duvernay, who could play defensive back or receiver for the Longhorns, plans to enroll July 11.

Along with Urquidez and Donovan Duvernay, ESPN 300 offensive lineman Patrick Hudson, running back Kameron Martin and cornerback Parrish Cobb also received releases from their national letters of intent. Hudson is making an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend, while Martin is visiting Auburn and TCU.

Wide receiver Jared Atkinson of Mesquite, Texas, who had requested a release, has decided to stick with the Bears
