Kellen Mond, No. 2 dual-threat QB for 2017, picks Texas A&M

The top uncommitted quarterback in the class of 2017 is off the board.

Kellen Mond, the No. 2-ranked dual-threat QB and No. 49 prospect in the class, committed to Texas A&M over Auburn on Monday night in what was a down-to-the-wire recruiting battle between SEC West programs.

The Under Armour All-America Game signal-caller originally committed to Baylor in June 2015 over Auburn before reopening his recruitment June 1. Mond's decision came on the heels of unofficial visits to Texas A&M on June 11 and Auburn on June 17, with the Aggies making up significant ground following the visit.

The IMG Academy quarterback played at Reagan High in San Antonio prior to his transfer, which is the same high school that produced current Texas A&M starting quarterback Trevor Knight.

Mond's verbal commitment makes it the fourth straight class in which the Aggies will sign a four-star quarterback, following Kyle Allen (class of 2014), Kyler Murray (class of 2015) and Nick Starkel (class of 2016). Both Allen and Murray transferred out in December.

Texas A&M was the No. 12-ranked class prior to Mond's commitment. With the addition of Mond, the Aggies continue to put together an impressive class on offense, led by ESPN 300 running back Travis Etienne, receiver/athlete Roshauud Paul and offensive lineman Grayson Reed. Mond's commitment could affect a number of top remaining targets on offense, including ESPN 300 receiver Hezekiah Jones, four-star receiver Cedarian Lamb and offensive lineman Creed Humphrey.

Mond is the second quarterback in the 2017 class to commit to the Aggies, joining three-star Connor Blumrick.
