Ex-Syracuse AD Daryl Gross to take over Cal State-L.A. athletics

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross has been hired to take the helm of the Division II athletic program at Cal State-Los Angeles.

Gross, who has been working as both a professor and vice president and special assistant to the Syracuse University chancellor after serving a decade as the school's athletic director, will start his new job in July.

Gross changed positions at Syracuse in March 2015 after an eight-year NCAA investigation into the basketball and football programs that led to sanctions and five years of probation for Orange athletics. Men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim, the football program and the university were punished for violations involving academics, improper benefits and other areas.

Gross was hired at the private university in upstate New York in 2005 after serving as senior associate athletic director at USC. He oversaw Syracuse's transition into the bigger business era of college sports and the ACC.
