Josh Hamilton singles for 1st hit back with Rangers

MLB, Texas Rangers

CLEVELAND -- Josh Hamilton singled in the seventh inning for his first hit since returning to the Texas Rangers.

Hamilton, hitless in his first nine at-bats since returning Monday, lined a hit down the left-field line off Cleveland's Carlos Carrasco. The 2010 AL MVP, trying for a double, was thrown out by Indians left fielder Mike Aviles.

"That was the most fun I've ever had being thrown out at second," Hamilton said, smiling. "It was a pretty good day all around."

Hamilton, who flied out in his first two at-bats, crashed face-first into the left-field wall catching Jason Kipnis' line drive in the first inning. Hamilton briefly remained on the ground, but stayed in the game.

"The wall was a lot harder than I thought it would be, so it rung my bell for a couple of seconds there," said Hamilton. "But it was good because I caught the ball. I've know I've only got a few years left, and I plan to enjoy them."

Hamilton had a self-reported alcohol and cocaine relapse last offseason. He was a five-time All-Star in his first stint with Texas and led the Rangers to the World Series in 2010 and 2011.

The Rangers lost Wednesday's game 12-3 as their seven-game winning streak came to an end.
