Josh Hamilton still feels pain in left knee, might not be ready to return

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton said he still feels pain in his sore left knee that prevents him from running. Hamilton will be eligible to come off the disabled list on Monday, the day before rosters are expanded, but isn't sure if he'll be ready.

"It's a day-to-day thing," he said. "I'm tired of watching ballgames."

The decision to put him on the DL with persistent left knee inflammation was made after Hamilton reported increased discomfort following the team's 2½-hour flight to Detroit Aug. 19, according to the Dallas Morning News. An Aug. 14 MRI showed no structural damage.

Hamilton has not ruled out offseason knee surgery to potentially repair or remove some cartilage in his knee. A five-time All-Star and the 2010 American League MVP, he has already undergone knee surgery twice on each knee.

The move opened a roster spot for Will Venable, whom Texas acquired in a trade with the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. In six games, Venable is hitting .231 with a double, four walks and an RBI.
