Jerry Jones to give state of the team speech after hip replacement

OXNARD, Calif. -- When the Dallas Cowboys open training camp Wednesday, owner and general manager Jerry Jones will be a full participant.

Jones, 72, had left hip replacement surgery July 21 and is recovering well.

Jones' first order of business for camp will be the state of the team news conference Wednesday.

"He's doing better than he ever expected," Cowboys vice president of communications Rich Dalrymple said. "[He's] moving around well, without assistance, and looking at the possibility of having his other hip done before the season starts."

Jones has had a noticeable limp for quite some time, and Dalrymple said the surgery was on the schedule for a while. Before Jones had the surgery, however, he made sure the Cowboys completed the five-year, $70 million deal with Dez Bryant by July 15, complete with a trip to New York to meet with Bryant's representatives, Roc Nation.

"He doesn't plan on missing anything during camp or the season," Dalrymple said.

Jones is set to begin his 27th season as Cowboys owner and general manager.
