Roundball chatter

Each week, I write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• Kansas has been chosen to participate in the 2015 World University Games in Korea. Only current university student-athletes or recent graduates, born between Jan. 1, 1990, and Dec. 31, 1997, are eligible for the 2015 Games. For Kansas' participation, only U.S. citizens can compete and incoming freshmen and transfers qualify. It will be a great opportunity to represent the U.S., plus it will provide experience to Bill Self's team.

• Congratulations to Fresno State coach Rodney Terry, who received a three-year contract extension. Terry led the Bulldogs to 21 wins and a strong showing in the College Basketball Invitational tournament this past season. Prior to arriving at Fresno, Terry was a highly-regarded assistant at Texas. Wyoming's Larry Shyatt also received a five-year extension from the school.

• I am happy to hear that another rivalry will be resuming in the future. Oklahoma State and Missouri used to meet in Big 12 play. Then the Tigers went to the SEC. They'll meet again this season when Travis Ford and new Missouri coach Kim Anderson match wits in Kansas City.

• New Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski got some good news when Loyola-Marymount forward Gabe Levin transferred to the Big East school. Lavin, who has to sit out the upcoming season, averaged 11 points and seven rebounds per game last season.

• LSU coach Johnny Jones made a wise move, hiring former NBA coach Eric Musselman to his Tigers staff. Musselman spent the past two years on the staff at Arizona State.

• Speaking of the Tigers, former LSU guard Anthony Hickey will be eligible to play for Oklahoma State immediately, according to the school. Hickey was originally expected to sit out the 2014-15 season, but LSU released him from his scholarship obligation.
