Roundball chatter

Each week, I write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• Michigan fans can breath a sign of relief. Guard Caris LeVert is working his way back into shape after surgery in May for a stress fracture in his right foot. LeVert will be so important in Ann Arbor now that Nik Stauskas has gone to the pros.

• I love the tradition at Kansas. "Rock, chalk, Jayhawk" is something special, and now the school is having a celebration in honor of Phog Allen Fieldhouse's 60th anniversary. Former coaches Larry Brown, Roy Williams and Ted Owens will join current coach Bill Self as part of the festivities.

• Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy got good news when Grambling guard Antwan Scott transferred to Fort Collins. He averaged 15.7 PPG last season and he opted to leave Grambling when coach Joseph Price was fired in July. Since Scott already graduated from Grambling, he will be eligible to play for the Rams immediately.

• St. John's added another big man in 6-foot-9 forward Amar Alibegovic from Bosnia. Alibegovic helped Bosnia and Herzegovina post an 8-0 mark to sweep the field and win the Under-20 European Championship Division B in mid-July.

• How good is the ACC going to be? The current alignment features the winners of six of the last 14 national championships. The American Athletic and SEC are next with three each (Connecticut won all of them for the AAC).
