Roundball chatter

Each week, I write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• Memphis got some good news as former Vanderbilt star Kedren Johnson transferred in. He sat out this past season due to off-court issues but averaged almost 14 PPG the season prior. Memphis will try to get a waiver to have Johnson eligible immediately. He will provide a boost as coach Josh Pastner's Tigers went 2-2 on a recent exhibition trip to Canada.

• Coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State got some great news as guard Bryn Forbes, a transfer from Cleveland State, is now eligible to play this season. Forbes, who was granted a waiver, averaged 15.6 PPG for the Vikings last season.

• UConn coach Kevin Ollie is not afraid to face tough opposition in non-league play. Proof of that came when the Huskies announced future home-and-home series against Ohio State and Arizona. UConn is playing the second half of a home-and-home with Florida this season.

• Former Kansas guard Andrew White III has transferred to Nebraska. The 6-foot-7 White will sit out this season and become eligible for 2015-16. He had a career-high 15 points vs. Belmont in 2012.

• Keep an eye on coach Kevin Willard's Seton Hall squad. The Pirates have quality young talent with a great incoming class.
