Roundball chatter

Each week, I write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• Kansas fans loved Scot Pollard when he was a Jayhawk. Now they have another Pollard on the roster in 6-foot-4 guard Josh Pollard, the nephew of Scot Pollard. He's a walk-on with Bill Self's squad.

• The College of Charleston finally named a replacement for Doug Wojcik. Former Clemson assistant Earl Grant is the new coach. Grant was part of Brad Brownell's staff at Clemson, which won 23 games last season. He will bring energy and tenacious recruiting ability to the College of Charleston!

• Congrats to Arizona State coach Herb Sendek on his contract extension. He led the Sun Devils to the NCAA tournament last season. Kudos also to Billy Kennedy, who received a two-year extension at Texas A&M.

• UNLV suffered a setback when guard Daquan Cook suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. He will miss the entire 2014-15 season. It is a blow to Dave Rice's backcourt depth.

• A three-day, six-game, eight-team event at New York City's Madison Square Garden highlights the 2014 NIT Season Tip-Off schedule. Georgia, Gonzaga, Minnesota and St. John's will play in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals on Nov. 26. Saint Joseph's, LIU-Brooklyn, Stony Brook and Western Kentucky will participate in a Thanksgiving doubleheader.
