Roundball chatter

Each week, I'll write about the sport I love: college basketball.

• Maryland was already the favorite to win the Big Ten next season. Now the Terps will be a candidate for preseason No. 1 with the addition of Duke transfer Rasheed Sulaimon. If he can regain his past form, watch out!

• Florida hired Louisiana Tech's Mike White as its new coach. He's the replacement for Billy Donovan, not an easy job. I believe athletic director Jeremy Foley knows what he is doing, and White will work out well.

• Gonzaga has had great success finding help via the transfer route. Mark Few landed a good one in Nigel Williams-Goss. The Washington transfer will have to sit out next season, but he will be a factor when he is in the lineup. Think about what Kyle Wiltjer and Byron Wesley have done, just to name a few.

• It makes total sense that Avery Johnson Jr. would transfer from Texas A&M to go to Alabama to play for his father. Avery Jr. saw limited time with the Aggies last season.

• It was a good week for Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy. He got a contract extension through 2019. He also added transfer DeAndre Burnett, a guard from Miami who will have to sit out next season.
