Roundball chatter

Each week, I'll write about the sport I love, college basketball:

• Arkansas, which lost a lot of talent from last year's NCAA tournament team, added 6-foot-10 Kennesaw State transfer Willy Kouassi. He will have one year of eligibility with the Razorbacks and can play immediately. Kouassi was voted the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year last season after becoming Kennesaw State's all-time leader in blocks in just two seasons with the Owls.

• Give Ohio State coach Thad Matta credit for scheduling a handful of tough non-conference games for the season ahead. The Buckeyes face Kentucky, Virginia, Connecticut, Memphis and Louisiana Tech besides facing the challenging Big Ten .

• I am looking forward to seeing 6-foot-10 freshman Henry Ellenson at Marquette. Coach Steve Wojciechowski has a future star up front in Ellenson.

• Billy Donovan has put together a great staff for Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and company. The Thunder will have a pair of ex-NBA head coaches in Maurice Cheeks, Monty Williams, and ex-Alabama and VCU head coach and Florida assistant Anthony Grant on the sidelines.

• Former NC State power forward Kyle Washington has transferred to Cincinnati. He will sit out next season before playing with Mick Cronin and the Bearcats. Washington did show signs of potential at times with the Wolfpack.

• Several schools will get a jump on next season by playing overseas in exhibition tours. They will get valuable experience while working on team chemistry. One example of a school that will benefit is LSU. The Tigers will play a five-game exhibition tour in Australia in August. That will give incoming diaper dandy Ben Simmons an opportunity to jell with his new teammates.
