CINCINNATI -- Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez left Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a bruised right knee after fouling a pitch off his leg in the third inning. Yasiel Puig also left the Dodgers' 1-0 win after pulling up when he beat out an infield single in the ninth inning. Puig left a game last week in Oakland with tightness in his right hamstring. He missed 38 games earlier this season with a strained left hamstring. "I felt it a little more than when I hurt it in Oakland," Puig said in Spanish. "... It wasn't that severe that time. Now, God willing, this one isn't that severe, either." Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said removing Gonzalez was a precautionary measure. Gonzalez said "absolutely, 100 percent" when he was asked whether he will return to the lineup Friday night against the Chicago Cubs. The team is far less certain about Puig's status because of the recurring nature of the injury. Puig said he is concerned that if he continues to play through the injury it will "end up like the left one." "I'm improving my hitting, but this happened with my leg again," Puig said. "I can't do anything about that. All I can do is continue working, continue receiving treatment and see what destiny brings me in this final month." Gonzalez, who leads the Dodgers in home runs (24) and RBIs (75), played two innings in the field after injuring himself but was replaced by Scott Van Slyke in the fifth. Gonzalez, 33, led the major leagues with 116 RBIs in 2014. He has played in 123 of the Dodgers' 126 games this season. He also played in his fourth All-Star Game in July.
