Buffalo's Bobby Hurley a top candidate at Arizona State, sources say

The Arizona State Sun Devils are targeting Buffalo Bulls coach and former Duke All-American Bobby Hurley as a leading candidate to fill their head-coach opening, sources have told ESPN.com.

CBSSports.com earlier reported the news, citing multiple sources.

Two of the website's sources referred to Hurley as the "frontrunner," while one suggested a contract might already be agreed to.

Hurley would replace Herb Sendek, who was fired last month after nine seasons.

Hurley, 43, is a former Duke star and NBA point guard who took the Bulls to the NCAA tournament this year, just his second heading up the program. Hurley previously was an assistant under his brother, Danny, at Wagner and Rhode Island.

It was reported last month Hurley had emerged as a contender for the DePaul job. A source had told ESPN that Hurley, whose team lost to West Virginia in the round of 64, was to interview at DePaul.

Information from ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz was used in this report.
