Five-star wing Terrance Ferguson, No. 13 in ESPN 100, picks Arizona

Men's College Basketball, Arizona Wildcats

Five-star wing Terrance Ferguson has committed to Arizona, he announced via Twitter.

Ferguson, who decommitted from Alabama on March 1, chose the Wildcats over Kansas, Baylor, NC State and North Carolina. Since reopening his recruitment, Ferguson had taken only one official visit, to Arizona.

He also went to a Baylor versus Kansas game in Waco, and sources told ESPN he met with NC State this past weekend.

Ferguson's relationship with Arizona coach Sean Miller put the Wildcats over the top, though.

"Great visit, I'm not gonna lie," Ferguson told ESPN.com at last month's McDonald's All-American Game. "It was good meeting all the players. I know most of them. Just having a fun time, just hanging around. It was a great visit overall. Great people, great town. I love the weather down there, the weather is amazing. And then my mom liked it."

Ranked No. 13 in the ESPN 100, Ferguson, who is 6-foot-7, will make an impact at the next level because of his ability to make shots from the perimeter and defend multiple positions. His shot can be a little streaky, but he's immediately a "3 and D" player who will be difficult to keep off the floor.

Ferguson has won three gold medals with USA Basketball, including one in the FIBA U19 World Championships last summer. He averaged 6.1 points in that event, but Miller, who coached that team, loved Ferguson's length and defensive versatility.

The Advanced Prep International (Texas) product will join a loaded perimeter group for Arizona. The Wildcats return Allonzo Trier and also get Ray Smith back from injury. Miller already had five-star guards Kobi Simmons and Rawle Alkins in the 2016 fold. Arizona lacked consistent perimeter offense this past season. That will not be the case with the 2016-17 Wildcats.

With Ferguson in the fold, Arizona now has the No. 3 recruiting class in the country. Along with Simmons and Alkins, the Wildcats are also bringing in five-star Finland native Lauri Markkanen. Scouts who have seen Markkanen consider him one of the best frontcourt prospects entering college basketball next season. This is the sixth straight season that Miller and Arizona have reeled in a top-seven recruiting class.
