Cal's Jordan Mathews chooses Gonzaga

California grad transfer Jordan Mathews is headed to Gonzaga for his final basketball season, he announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-3 Mathews averaged 13.5 points last season for Cuonzo Martin and the Golden Bears. He will give the Zags a threat from beyond the arc -- as he has made at least 41 percent of his 3s each of the past two seasons.

Mathews also considered N.C. State before choosing Gonzaga. Mathews' father, Phil, is extremely close to Gonzaga assistant Donnie Daniels. The pair worked together in the 1980s as assistants at Cal State Fullerton.

Mathews still needs to finish summer classes before being eligible to play next season for Mark Few in Spokane. He will join two other transfers for Gonzaga who sat out last season -- former Washington point guard Nigel Williams-Goss and ex-Missouri forward Jonathan Williams.
